Bush: We Don’t Torture People –

If you listen to anything here, listen to the last video presentation by Alfred McCoy, no matter how unpleasant it may be to do so.

Surprise, our leaders lie. America has either directly tortured or trained the torturers that have performed their handiwork on hundreds of thousands of innocent men, woman and yes, even children. From the Shah’s secret police the Savak, to the 60,000 Latin American graduates of the Fort Benning torture education School of the Americas that went on to be renowned at their skills at the most heinous and cruel torture techniques, and when that was just not enough the slaughter of whole villages, that is after raping the women and bashing their children’s heads against the rocks.

These are not the things we American’s believe in, but then really no peoples of any nation do so(except for radical Islamists, frozen in the amber of the 8th century). They are the result of government institutionalized pathologies, the result of the sins and corruption of empire. The American people are not really to blame, our governments are. The State and all that serve it, when given such extreme powers over the lives of others corrupts almost absolutely all that are sucked into the deviant institutionalized rationalizations for the worst behavior that can be produced by any human being.

Yes, America and Americans torture, we have done so for many, many years and continue to do so, of that I have no doubts. Dismantle the power of the centralized, bureaucratic state and America’s self-destructive disease of torture that covertly erodes our civilizations empathy for the tortured, inures our police forces as well to the increasing evidence of their declining humanity.

In 1948, George Kennan, head of the State Department planning staff, wrote a top secret document titled Policy Planning Study 23 for his staff that included the following statements:   We have about 50% of the world’s wealth, but only 6.3% of its population… In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity… To do so, we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives… We should cease to talk about vague and… unreal objectives such as human rights, the raising of the living standards, and democratization. The day is not far off when we are going to have to deal in straight power concepts.

The methods of the United States and the troops it trains and supplies are oftentimes quite grotesque. The US-run contra forces in Nicaragua and the US-assisted, trained, and funded barbarians in El Salvador and Guatemala didn’t just participate in simple killing. They encouraged and practiced brutal, sadistic torture. They beat infants against rocks before the eyes of their parents. They placed rats inside women’s vaginas and burned male and female sexual organs with acid or boiling water. They would hang women by their feet with their breasts cut off and the skin of their face peeled back so they’d bleed to death. They shoved bayonets and clubs into women’s vaginas and men’s anuses. They chopped civilian’s heads off and put them on stakes for public display. This was all done with persistent support from the United States in its quest to destroy independent nationalism and popular forces that might bring about meaningful democracy.

(currently called the Western Hemisphere Institute on Security Cooperation) in Fort Benning, Georgia. The SOA has trained more that 60,000 Latin American troops since 1946 in the techniques of torture and assassination against their impoverished populations. Alumni include General Manuel Noriega, Salvadoran death-squad leader Roberto d’Aubuisson, and the majority of government officers who were cited for the worst atrocities in the Salvadoran civil war that killed 80,000 people.
