“Trained incapacity”: a proliferation of skills together with a narrowing of vision that creates an inability to come grips with the real world ==Thorstein Veblen ,1914
The world of everyday life is not only taken for granted as reality by the ordinary members of society in the subjectively meaningful conduct of their lives. It is a world that originates in their thoughts and actions, and is maintained as real by these.

There is something called induced self-deception, in which the self-deceived person acts not for the benefit of self but for someone who is inducing the self-deception. This can be parent, partner, kin group, society, or whatever, and it is an extremely important factor in human life. You are still practicing self-deception but not for your own benefit. Among other things, it means that we need to be on guard to avoid this fate—not defensive via self-deception but via greater consciousness.

Control the social context of all of American life and you control the “reality” of the vast majority of the American people. A very limited group of transnational corporate behemoths control almost all aspects of the social context of the daily existence of life in America. From the media, commercials and government propaganda to just about every aspect of our waking consciousness we are controlled, directed and subsumed into a world that is not of our own making. Our ability to perceive truth through the lies has almost completely dissipated.
“Trained incapacity” and brainwashed acceptance of the illusions foisted upon us has made our escape to the truth difficult and best, perhaps impossible. That is until the reality overcomes the propaganda and Toto pulls back the curtain. Unfortunately, but then the shock of the real may result in a willingness to be enslaved for a return to a reality that can no longer be provided. Many will not survive. The writers of the Matrix movies were beyond prescient.
“The targets of modern mind control are always described in terms of medical treatment, alleviation of suffering, and healing. What else would you expect? A stark mission statement about population control and intentional shrinking of brain function? No, this op inevitably falls under ‘greatest good for the greatest number’. The promoted premise is: less effort, less pain, more happiness. A gift given to the essentially passive human being. That formulation itself is a version of mind control. The hero and the rebel are replaced by the semi-satisfied and quiescent android.” (The Underground, Jon Rappoport)

“The findings, described in the Aug. 27 issue of Nature, demonstrated that a neuronal circuit connecting the hippocampus and the amygdala plays a critical role in associating emotion with memory. This circuit could offer a target for new drugs to help treat conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, the researchers say.
“’In the future, one may be able to develop methods that help people to remember positive memories more strongly than negative ones,’ says Susumu Tonegawa, the Picower Professor of Biology and Neuroscience, director of the RIKEN-MIT Center for Neural Circuit Genetics at MIT’s Picower Institute for Learning and Memory, and senior author of the paper.”
If you tried the test, how far did your hands move? According to Wiseman, if they stayed level or shifted just a few inches apart then you aren’t that suggestible. But if they moved more than a few inches, you’re the perfect candidate for a magic trick.
