Syrian rebels armed and trained by US surrender to al-Qaeda – and other wonderful Americana

An unrestrained security apparatus has throughout history been one of the principal reasons that free governments have failed. The Trumanite network holds within its power something far greater than the ability to recommend higher import duties or more windmills or even gargantuan corporate bailouts: it has the power to kill and arrest and jail, the power to see and hear and read peoples’ every word and action,30 the power to instill fear and suspicion, the power to quash investigations and quell speech, the power to shape public debate or to curtail it, and the power to hide its deeds and evade its weak-kneed overseers. The Trumanite network holds, in short, the power of irreversibility. No democracy worthy of its name can permit that power to escape the control of the people.

Are we this incompetent?

Perhaps, but then again the only ones who truly know the answer are the few hundred members of the interconnected subterranean world of the hidden state. The ones that really set our foreign polices and control, through the absolute power over everyone, even those that presume leadership and the false mantle of rule, as the holders of the keys to the kingdom The keys that lock the doors to all, but for their eyes, to the information and data gathered on every single citizen, even the President. The power of knowledge garnered from the total surveillance states invasive, unconstitutional gathering of every bit and bite every American generates, and has generated for many years, is being exercised in ways that only the nightmarish dystopian vision of Huxley and Orwell could imagine.

There is no one, not one soul in Washington power circles that is without sin. Knowledge of these sins, confers absolute power on a very limited few whose purpose in life is not the pursuit of American civic virtues. Power does corrupt. The reality of our true intents and designs of the execution of the covert and open American orchestrated wars in the Levant may never be broadly known, in fact, knowledge of them might be dangerous for those willing to voice the truth. I am doubtful the “establishment” will allow another Snowden to escape. In fact there may already have been one, but we will never know and he or she will never surface.

Two of the main rebel groups receiving weapons from the United States to fight both the regime and jihadist groups in Syria have surrendered to al-Qaeda.

The US and its allies were relying on Harakat Hazm and the Syrian Revolutionary Front to become part of a ground force that would attack the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil).

For the last six months the Hazm movement, and the SRF through them, had been receiving heavy weapons from the US-led coalition, including GRAD rockets and TOW anti-tank missiles.

But on Saturday night Harakat Hazm surrendered military bases and weapons supplies to Jabhat al-Nusra, when the al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria stormed villages they controlled in northern Idlib province.

The development came a day after Jabhat al-Nusra dealt a final blow to the SRF, storming and capturing Deir Sinbal, home town of the group’s leader Jamal Marouf.

The attack caused the group, which had already lost its territory in Hama to al-Qaeda, to surrender.

“As a movement, the SRF is effectively finished,” said Aymen al-Tammimi, a Syria analyst. “Nusra has driven them out of their strongholds of Idlib and Hama.”

The collapse of the SRF and attacks on Harakat Hazm have dramatically weakened the presence of moderate rebel fighting groups in Syria, which, after almost four years of conflict is increasingly becoming a battle ground between the Syrian regime and jihadist organisations.

For the United States, the weapons they supplied falling into the hands of al-Qaeda is a realisation of a nightmare.

Useful Atrocities

Who outside of Syria knows the names Yara Abbas, Maya Naser, Mohamed al-Saeed…? The corporate media has inundated us with news of the two American journalists allegedly beheaded, the first of whose execution video has been deemedfaked. But what of the non-Western journalists and civilians beheaded and murdered by ISIS, al-Nusra, and associated terrorists in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine?

Why didn’t the August 2012 execution (which some reported as a beheading) of TV presenter Mohamed alSaeed, claimed by the Nusra gang, create the same outrage? Or the December 2013 kidnapping and point blank execution in Idlib by ISIS of Iraqi journalist Yasser al-Jumaili?

Why wasn’t the murder of Yara Abbas—a journalist with al-Ikhbariaya, whose crew’s car was attacked by an insurgent sniper—broadcast on Western television stations? Or that of Lebanese cameraman for al-Mayadeen, Omar Abdel Qader, shot dead by an insurgent sniper on March 8, 2014 in eastern Syria.
