“Multiculturalism,” the dominant narrative used by popular culture and many intellectuals alike to explain our historical moment and public moral goals. Despite what we are led to believe by its apologists, Multiculturalism is not about respecting cultural differences or the diversity of ethnic groups in America. Multiculturalism is instead a melodramatic tale of the wickedness of the West and its role in destroying the peaceful paradises in which other peoples (usually “of color”) lived before Europeans and then Americans came along to inflict on them racism, sexism, slavery, colonialism, imperialism, homophobia, technology, and environmental degradation.
As Arthur Schlesinger puts it: Self-styled “multiculturalists” are very often ethnocentric separatists who see little in the Western heritage beyond Western crimes. The Western tradition, in this view, is inherently racist, sexist, “classist,” hegemonic; irredeemably repressive, irredeemably oppressive. The spread of Western culture is due not to any innate quality but simply to the spread of Western power.
Multiculturalism is perhaps the most dangerous false knowledge circulating among us.
This version of history is false because it assumes a Romantic view of human nature as benign if only it remains uncorrupted by a dysfunctional Western culture and ideology. This description of history, as we have seen above, is a version of the Noble Savage myth,6 and as such is wrong on simple empirical grounds. World history is filled with the evidence of universal human depravity and evil, a wickedness that knows no distinctions of race, religion, culture, or gender. Conquest, plunder, war, torture, cruelty, slavery, oppression of women or minorities—all stain the record of human life no matter what period or what part of the globe.
anti-Western Multiculturalism is dangerous false knowledge—its sheer hypocrisy.
the greatest irony is that Multiculturalism’s anti-Western thrust is likewise utterly Western. The very idea that individuals should be free to criticize their society is a Western one, and no tradition has been harder on the West than the West itself.14
We hear much about the West’s sins of colonialism, but conquest and exploitation are sad constants; more unusual are sentiments like those eloquently given voice by Edmund Burke in the following passage taken from his prosecution of his countryman William Hastings for the latter’s brutality and cruelty in India: “The sun in his beneficent progress round the world does not behold a more glorious sight than that of men, separated from a remote people by the material bounds and barriers of nature, united by the bond of a social and moral community, all the Commons of England resenting as their own, the indignities and cruelties that are offered to all the people of India.”
The burden of the Multiculturalist should be to account for the West’s unique recognition that slavery and oppression are evils that violate universal principles.
We have not seen hordes of Americans fleeing an allegedly racist, sexist, soul-killing, high-tech, fast-paced society for the simpler, more fulfilling, more egalitarian, less repressed “organic” lives of non-Western “primal” peoples.
The incessant vehemence of the self-righteous attack on Western society and values on the part of those who enjoy the material and political benefits of the West compels notice that no matter what they may say, they have already voted for the West with their feet.
Multiculturalism, then, for all its pretensions to being historical truth, is not an accurate description of history or a coherent ethical system. It is instead a therapeutic myth, a version of history that gratifies the feelings of those who are disaffected with modern civilization.
==Plagues of the Mind: The New Epidemic of False Knowledge (Thornton, Bruce S.)
I know this may not be appropriate for a public blog, but this woman makes me so sick to my stomach I cannot bear to hear her voice without serious abdominal pains. How stupid, willfully blinded by their false ideologies, ignorant of reality or simply excited by the prospects of the imminent implosion of Western Civilization and the coming bloodbath that this will inevitably entail are those out there, close to 50% of the American population, that these abominations can occupy the seats of power in this nation without revolution?
With her husband desperate to make a sucker deal with Iran to allow the rogue Muslim nation to develop nuclear weapons, First Lady Michelle Obama thought she’d get into the spirit of things by hosting an Iranian New Year celebration at the White House on Wednesday. For the optics-conscious Obamas, the timing couldn’t be more perfect with the Republicans’ letter to Iran and Netanyahu’s speech still ruffling administration feathers.
Remember when Michelle Obama held that celebration at the White House for the Buddhist New Year? How about the Russian Orthodox New Year? Jewish New Year? Don’t worry; I don’t recall any of those either.
“I think it’s so fitting that we are holding this celebration here today because, one of my favorite things about the White House is how it is truly the people’s house. A house that reflects the diversity of culture and traditions that make us who we are as a country,” said the First Lady.
I guess all of that is true if you don’t consider American culture and traditions as being important to “who we are.”
“And Nowruz is one of those traditions,” continued Michelle Obama.
Really? The Persian New Year is an important American tradition that helped shape us as a nation? I’m sure almost everybody reading this has never heard of this holiday before today.
Hosting this event at the White House was a shameless political move and shows the Obamas’ growing bias for Islamic culture. I can’t wait for the ISIS Day “egg” hunt where underprivileged militant youth search for the decapitated heads of infidels in the Rose Garden.
Recently, after reading parts of the Koran, I have become a bit frustrated that no one seems to understand the magnitude of the Muslim threat. People look at at the Pew report and they seem to think that the results are mixed, and that there really “aren’t that many” radical Muslims. So I sat down today and actually ran the numbers; I’m attaching a page from that analysis which shows my results. My hope is that you may wish to publish them, or portions thereof, in one of your columns.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that with 1.6B Muslims, even if 10% of them were radical, that’s 160 million people: about half of the total US population. But in looking closer at their survey, I’d put the number closer to 25%.
My analysis focused only on the questions about Sharia law: (1) Should the law of the land be Sharia law?; and (2) should that apply to everyone, including non-Muslims? Pew asked question (1) in countries that account for about a billion Muslims, and question (2) in countries that account for about 830 million. If you accept their results in just the countries they surveyed, we learn that:
— 70%, or 700 million Muslims out of the billion represented by Q1 of their survey, want Sharia law to be the law of the land;
— 32%, or 266 million Muslims out of the 840 million represented by Q2 of their survey, want to force it upon everyone.
I don’t know about you, but I’d say that alone represents over a quarter billion “radical” Muslims, with only just over half (53%) of their total population accounted for by the survey.
On an early January morning in 2013, Shehzad Luqman, a 27-year-old Pakistani Muslim living in Greece, was riding his bicycle to work in an Athens suburb when he was violently attacked. Two men suspected of being members of Greece’s neo-Nazi political party, Golden Dawn, were later convicted of stabbing Luqman to death.30
While this attack was particularly violent, it was not an isolated incident. Although Europe’s median score on the Social Hostilities Index declined slightly, from 2.7 in 2012 to 2.3 in 2013, it remained well above the global median (1.6), and many acts of hostility in the region were directed at religious minorities.
Harassment of Jews and Muslims was particularly widespread. Jews faced harassment in 34 of the region’s 45 countries (76%) — a higher share than in any other region. In the rest of the world, Jews were harassed by individuals or groups in society in 25% of countries.
