Somewhere between 250,000-400,000 human beings, American human beings die in our nation’s hospitals every single year, the result of preventable events, from doctors malfeasance to nursing mistakes, drug reactions and many other causes. Do we do anything about it? Do we have a Department of Hospital Security armed to the teeth absconding with our rights and freedoms to protect us against death and injury so radically more likely than any terrorist could possibly impose? Do we have a corporate media fanning the flames of national indignation and raising the levels of generalized paranoia and fear to the point where the citizens of this nation are willing to have their absolute rights to privacy, free speech and so many of the freedoms we have lost since 9/11 reduced to meaningless phrases by an uncontrollable, dictatorial and increasingly authoritarian, coercive Leviathan in Washington? All over the horrible and deadly state of our healthcare system? Health insurance for all, death for many?
Is a child killed by errors, negligence and intentional indolence more or less important than a child killed by a terrorist? Maybe they are not really equal, but how about thousands of children and hundreds of thousands of sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and parents of Americans year or 2,500,000-4,000,000 over ten years? But we are willing to lay down like sheep to the slaughter for the powerful, the rich, the political elites that demand our complacency and docility as they destroy this nation, destroy the Constitution and our freedoms over a death absurdly less likely than the lives destroyed every single year in this nation, as we seek medical attention, healing and health?
The hospitals, doctors, pharmaceutical companies, lawyers and all of the thousands upon thousands of beneficiaries of the system as it exists, including the politicians sucking on the spigots of lobbyists campaign donations down the line to the media companies whose life forces are the far too ubiquitous healthcare propaganda advertisements, clearly make any focus on the real issue of unnecessary deaths in America all but impossible. Better for the propagators of fear to steal our liberties through focusing our collective minds on de minimis risks that kill two birds with one stone: they allow for the State to steal or inalienable rights and synchronously build a police state to suppress us.
This is all so obviously a well planned attack that now we are so damn close to becoming an authoritarian dictatorship that if you close your eyes and squint you can see the armies of jackbooted storm troopers coming down your street.
When people with the power to do something about medically caused death—and I’m talking about huge numbers of victims—know what’s going on and ignore it…what do you call that? Depraved indifference? Negligent homicide?
I call it murder.
Barack Obama and his allies have done everything they can to bring more people into the US medical system. Changing that system has never occurred to these politicians.
Like much of America, they accept the cliches and slogans about American medicine. “It’s the best in the world.” “People are being denied treatment.” “We must take care of our citizens.”
How about this far more accurate slogan: “Let’s force more Americans to die in the care of doctors.”
The American healthcare system, like clockwork, causes a mind-boggling number of deaths every year.
